New NZTR Board member announced Mon, 25 Jun 2012

The Chairman of the Members’ Council of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, Peter Francis, today announced the appointment of Ben Nettleton, a barrister and solicitor, to the Board of NZTR.

He takes the position made available by the resignation of Con Anastasiou.

Nettleton graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce in 2009. Following admission to the Bar, he worked for a Queen’s Counsel before joining French Burt Partners Law Firm in July 2010.

He advises primarily on commercial, corporate and property matters, and in dispute resolution/civil litigation. His particular areas of interest include media/entertainment and agri-business.

Nettleton previously worked as a journalist and radio broadcaster/producer, including at More FM and in television within the production team of Trackside TV. He has also tutored in business management and business law.

He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, and is involved with a number of commercial boards and non-profit organisations.

On his appointment, Ben Nettleton stated he was looking forward to making a positive contribution to the governance of the New Zealand Racing industry.

“I have a passion for the racing industry and a keen interest in its growth and development,” he said. “I am a regular racegoer. Racing has a long history in my family and I presently have an interest in a broodmare and a filly.

“My interest is in how racing can be developed to ensure inter-generational interest, development and engagement. It is critical racing is equally if not more relevant for both mine and future generations.”

NZTR Chairman Matthew Goodson said he welcomed the appointment of Ben Nettleton to the Board, given his racing industry knowledge and legal and broadcasting experience.
